I had planned on today’s issue to talk about the uncertainty in the industry right now. Not just because of a new president and what administrative changes that might bring, but rather just how much is going on in the industry right now that we won’t know if is successful for months or even years.

But I woke up this morning to the news that in South Korea, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law, in what can only be currently described as an autogolpe. The opposition party has sought to impeach top prosecutors and rejected a government budget proposal so Yoon decided it’s better to just take over the government and blame it on North Korean influence.

It goes without saying, but this could have a HUGE impact on the automotive industry with repercussions we’re not yet keen on. This is a developing story, so stay tuned for more news as it becomes available and an analysis of what it all means once we know more.
